Prideful Sloth is an Australian based studio that focuses on detailed world-building and player-driven narrative experiences. In the past, they have released an open-world adventure Yonder: The Cloud Catcher Chronicles, in 2017, and a world-crafting sandbox game Grow: Song of the Evertree four years later. Both of their previous games got greatly accepted by their players, and it seems like it is the same with their current project, Go-Go Town!. Go-Go Town! got released in Early Access on the 18th of June 2024, and is a city building simulation game, that is co-published by CULT Games.

The developers decided for an Early Access release to continue collaborating with their players, to reach their long-term vision for the game. They have already been testing Go-Go Town! for the past year and got brilliant feedback from its community with plenty of suggestions. Prideful Sloth state that they have a lot of ideas on how to expand Go-Go Town! after its full release, but they first want to focus on releasing a strong 1.0 version of the game and to successfully bring it out of its Early Access state. Their current plan is to reach a full release around the second quarter of 2025, and they wish to implement online multiplayer features, add more content such as maps and biomes, and polish out the game’s narrative. Go-Go Town!’s current state is completely playable and features a full gameplay loop – you can play it from start to finish, so to speak. The price of the game will be increased at its full launch, so try grabbing it with an “early bird” discount while it is still in Early Access.
Two days ago they overhauled the game with a major update, Build and Bustle. The update added a lot of community-led content and customisation options, and even a Fast Travel feature. Go-Go Town! now features a bigger town map that will no longer limit you with your creations and at achieving a town status you always wanted. Also included in the update is Zone Customisation, and it allows you to fully customise each single zone completely to your liking. As already mentioned, Fast Travel added a subway system into the game, where all inhabitants are allowed to take a ride from one end of your town to another. This update also allows you to Summon Vehicles, and has added more additional buildings that you can build and other cosmetic options for you hard-working Mayor.
To quickly sum it up, Go-Go Town! is a fun game, already with plenty of content and a lot more of it to come. It is a conglomerate of various city building and life simulation games, and it results in a very promising project that I cannot wait to play in its full version. It also looks very polished, and the gameplay is pretty laid back and it practically does not induce any stress. Overall, a great Early Access effort that already includes a lot of things you can do, so I wholeheartedly recommend getting it at a cheaper price, which means TODAY… or at least as soon as possible.
