Hex Gambit: Respawned is a competitive digital board game that was made with the Unreal Engine and can be played it five different languages – from English to Spanish. You can play a single player campaign or the multiplayer mode, which features couch multiplayer or online cross-platform multiplayer. The rules of the game are, that the first to reach 10 Victory Points wins, and there are two ways to earn them – by defeating enemies or using your minions’ Pillar Tap action. You get three Action Points to spend each turn, and you can use them to move minions, attack and spawn new minions. Every minion can use the Pillar Tap on an enemy pillar to gain 1 Victory Point. You can also activate your Captain’s Pillar when you see it glowing to unleash your Captain’s Gambit. You can use your Captain’s Gambit a limited number of times each match, and the stronger the Gambit, the less times you can use it. That is about it as far as the rules go, but you will learn additional stuff through playing the game. When starting the campaign, you can choose between five Captains that all have their own special abilities. Another five Captains are to be unlocked by earning 2, 10, 18, 30 and 42 Medallions. You can earn up to three Medallions per each campaign challenge, that is one for beating a level on each difficulty. You can also gain one Medallion for every friendly multiplayer match, or by playing an online Quick Match.

There are Easy, Normal, and Hard difficulties available for each challenge – on the first two difficulties you get three undos per turn, while the Hard difficulty does not grant any undos, and there is also a 45 second turn timer enabled. In your first challenge, you will focus on basic combat, with each minion moving once per turn and using one action. The battle against AI players is fought on a hex grid, on which you are able to move around and attack enemies’ minions. Once you defeat all of their minions, a challenge is completed. There are twenty-one challenges to get through on all three difficulties in the campaign mode. Its turn-based strategy gameplay will be familiar to everyone who has ever played a turn-based strategy game, and it is otherwise quite easy to learn the ropes. There are various tactics you can explore for successfully completing the challenges, which are quite challenging. Game’s art style is pretty neat, and the minions’ animations are done good as well.

I can recommend Hex Gambit: Respawned to all strategy players that enjoy the turn-based tactics games. It is not the easiest of games, but can be completed by using a variety of different strategies.
