Super Woden GP II is a sequel to Super Woden GP – who would have thunk – and a love letter to the world of motorsports – that is what they say. You can play the game in numerous languages, including Esperanto. I repeat – Esperanto! Three difficulties are available – Easy, Normal, and Hard – and the car damage can be turned off, should you want to do that. The game will welcome you with a map, where you can access various made up car dealers, and game modes – Arcade and Time Trial. You will start the game with 15,000 credits, so it is time to buy our first car! There are tons of different cars available, which I was pleasantly surprised by, so the decision was a hard one. I ultimately went with Raven Moon, a made up Japanese brand. I coloured it red, and boom! The first trophy was unlocked for being a new owner. It was time to start racing, so I headed to the Arcade mode to participate in an arcade-style race. There I was able to choose between Route A, which was normal, and Route B – the hard one. To my surprise, I was not able to select the car I just bought, but there were others available to choose from. I chose an Italian one, and off I went! It all started with three credits available and a simple track located in Kenya. This is not a made up place – Google it, if you do not believe me. Arcade mode consists of a few tracks, each one lap long, and the winner is the one that has the best cumulative time between them. Pretty simple and straightforward.
Enough of the Arcade mode, let’s head to Go Race. Ahhh, this is actually the thing I wanted to start with first! Here you can participate in the available competitions, presumably with the car that you own. That is completely right! There are W.G.P. Championships, Rally, and Endurance races available, and also Weekend themed races. I noticed that a Local Multiplayer option is available as well, which is great for all of you who want to play Super Woden GP II together with a friend. Races are locked behind stars, though, so you need to be successful in those available, to be able to unlock new ones. You are able to achieve three stars in each of the races, depending on how well you place in them. After completing them, you will also receive credits, and with those you will be able to wash your car, change oil, and also tune it up. Oh, and not to forget, also buy new vehicles. All that is left to cover, is the Time Trial mode, but we all know what that one is about. You will compete to improve your best lap time in any circuit the game has to offer. That is it!
I very much enjoyed the gameplay Super Woden GP II has to offer – car manoeuvring is very responsive and the cars drift great through the corners. Graphics do not offer anything spectacular like your AAA racing games, but they are satisfying enough to enjoy your time playing it. As far as the game’s trophy list goes, you will need to earn 24 stars, drive more than 300 kilometres, and collect 15 cars. It will take some time to achieve the Platinum, but I have to say it is very much easily obtainable. Go for it!
I also played the first game when it came out, but I did not like it as much as I like Super Woden GP II. I have no idea why I did not, since it looks basically the same. I am for sure going to revisit it, to remember what was different about it. I recommend getting the second part to all avid racers, since it is very rewarding + fun to play. Get it!
